I have always been afraid of an elevator. But one day I just lost control over myself and fainted when I was forced to take an elevator. It was crowded, irritating and frightening for me. I didn’t know whether it was normal or not as I’ve always seen people taking the elevator without any hesitation until I realized that I was actually behaving abnormally. My friends suggested that I look for a cure for panic attacks and I should visit a doctor and when I did, to my extreme horror, the doctor said that I was suffering from panic attacks and I needed panic attack treatment.
It was such a strange feeling for me to know that I was ill. But the doctor explained that panic attacks are not illness or disease; it’s just an attack that can be treated.
Panic attack treatments can be treated either with medications or with cognitive behavior therapy. The therapies can actually help in breaking the patterns of the negative or evil thoughts and help in teaching the sufferer to calm himself and also cope up with the symptoms as and when required.
Panic attacks are usually triggered by stressful situations in which a person cannot rest. In such situations, a strong and potent support system becomes crucial for an individual who is suffering from panic attacks. There are times when an individual might experience fugitive irrational terrors and in such cases a trusted member of the family or good friends can be very helpful for the sufferer. Any kind of support that comes from anywhere and particularly from close associates can be very soothing for the individual.
While undergoing cognitive behavior therapy, the therapist might ask the individual to maintain a regular journal or record of all their reactions to situations or events that they consider to be the cause of their attacks. Activities that can give you relief from stress and anxiety, such as yoga, tai chi and meditation can also be practiced regularly for relief. These would also be recommended by therapists.
Panic attack treatment is also possible with the help of drugs and medications. The ideal choice for treating panic attacks is SSRI or selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor. Drugs included in this group are paxil, prozac and Zoloft and all these can help in gaining control over panic attacks.
There are times when you as an individual might also need benzodiazepines such as Xanax or Valium to control the panic attacks incase of an emergency. However, these drugs should not be taken for long as these are addictive.
Some people try to overcome their panic attacks by taking illegal drugs and alcohol. These can just trigger the intensity of your attacks rather than giving you relief. These are mere addictions and nothing else and must be prevented under any circumstances.
It is very difficult to say whether panic attacks can be prevented or not as the cause of panic attacks are usually undefined. However, if you know that you are experiencing panic attacks you can adapt certain lifestyle changes to give some relief to yourself.
To begin with, have a balanced diet; what you eat has a direct impact on your health and mind as well. Don’t eat things that can cause indigestion. Try to keep your system clean.
Socialize. Go out with friends and try to unwind yourself. Try to take a break after every three months. It is needed for everyone.
Exercise to keep yourself fit. Yoga and meditation can help you in releasing your tensions and anxiety.
Be happy and try to speak to your friends and family whenever you can. Address your problems and resolve it immediately. That’s the best panic attack treatment and cure for panic attacks.
